Good resolution, nice spotlight feature, absolutely hate that it doesn’t work with the old hub.
I have been using Arlo since 2018 with the older cameras that required an Arlo hub and have been generally happy. These new cameras have a lot of nice features like 2k resolution instead of 1k. A spotlight for better night views including colors. What I don’t like is the ability to save copies of video locally like the hub used to allow. These cameras require an always on, stable, Internet connection and a subscription to pretty much do anything. And subscriptions add up quickly. My old cameras are used to protect a house in the country where the Internet isn’t always stable. I wish these new cameras could also be added to the local hub because once my old cameras stop working I will not be getting a camera that requires Internet and a subscription. Which seems to be pretty much the whole Arlo line.

new and improved arlo camera
i have an older system, one of the first that came out so there are newer features on this camera. I like that the battery is built in, no more swapping out batteries every other week. It has a light that I don’t use and I think a speaker as well. I just turned them off. The mount absolutely sucks so get yourself a different mount.

I have used Arlo for at least 10 years.only thing I don’t like about the essential is that the base doesn’t swivel. Good quality pictures don’t have to use a subscription In 10 years I have only downloaded 1 video. MUST update! Base does swivel. I didn’t have it screwed in all the way for the line up. However trying to find a new placement because they aren’t magnetic like the old ones I am finding the detection range is only about 10 feet. Downfall as I wanted to put it on my garage but path for detection isn’t that close.

Nice upgrade
I bought this as a replacement for one of my original 5 year old Arlo cams. My only issue with the XL model is the very slow charging time. It was charging for over 12 hours, meaning that area of my property was without security protection for over half of a day. Other than that, I love the new app and the quality of the video on the 2nd generation.

Great Camera.. BUT…
Awesome picture and picks up sound really well, however I’ve had them for maybe 2 weeks, the battery doesn’t last as long as they say seeing how long I’ve had them and already had to charge them again, also they don’t stay connected to the wifi I’ve already had to take them down 2 times to reconnect to the WiFi then put them back up. If you don’t mind all that there great.

Some limitations to be aware of
There is a technical limitation that may also be true of other brands of camera (I have not tried any others). It takes five seconds or so before the motion triggers the camera, so when you look at the recording you often don’t see what triggered it. I really wish it would alert me more quickly when someone is approaching because they could be standing on my porch by the time I am alerted. Then, when you try to view the live camera there may be a few more seconds of delay before you can actually see who is on your porch.In terms of cost, much of the functionality is limited unless you also subscribe to the monthly service which I think is about $12/month. Without that, the only functionality is the live camera. You will not be able to view any of the recordings, but only see the live feed. This limitation was a business decision on their part and I am not necessarily questioning it, but if you are thinking of buying this camera you should be aware of that.

Should be easy.
I’ve really had a challenging time with this product. I purchased a set of three Essential Series 2nd Generation cameras. You have to search online to get simple questions answered, for example, “When do I know my camera is done charging?”. One of the cameras wouldn’t register the Arlo charging cord with the initial charge. I had to unplug and plug about 8 times to get it to work. After the initial charge and install everything worked great. About 12 hours later, two cameras, installed on the soffit of the house, in two separate areas, stopped recording entirely. When I “live” streamed the camera, it only displayed pure black. I researched again and tried black and white recording, played with the brightness, etc. A lot of directions online (even with Arlo) are out of date. For example, I cannot “reset” this generation which was a recommended course of action by Arlo. I think that not only were they were both continuously picking up too much motion (from what I was unable to determine) but also that both cameras had bounce back from the white paint on the house. One lost 90% of power within 3 days and the other lasted a bit longer. I’ve now spent an hour trying to recharge them. I can’t even tell if they’re charging. After 4 hours I logged into my computer Arlo dashboard, tried to add a camera and one actually turned (single blue light) but when I tried to connect the device, I could only do so with my mobile. Fine, I’m here at my laptop, with my mobile and a camera yet I cannot get the three blinking blue lights to turn on in order to pickup a wifi connection (my router is at my feet). My hope is that I can install these two cameras at a different location but it’s been very frustrating and time consuming trying to use this product. The third camera, in a similar install location, has worked fine for the past 7 days. I am beginning to suspect that two out of the three cameras I received may be defective although they looked new out of the package. That seems surprising to me though so I’m going to troubleshoot a bit more but, yeah, this should be easier.

Great camera
I would recommend this camera to a friend. The video is amazing.They feel solid. They don’t feel like they were made cheap.I would have given it a 5 star of it came with bases that you could angle them 90 degrees.I hade to buy different bases so I could mount them and then angle them where I wanted them to look.I bought solar panels to keep them charged so I wouldn’t have to take them down to charge them. So I’m not worried about how long the battery lasts.

Useless wall mounts
The cameras themselves are as good if not better than the original version BUT, and a very big but, the mounts are, in effect, almost useless. The original swivel adjustable mount is no more being replaced by a single screw fix to the camera. There is apparently no way of directing the camera other than straight forward. Useless.There is also a problem in that they currently rely on WiFi and at the moment cannot link to a hub so there is no local recording capability. Apparently there will be a firmware upgrade to make this possible but until then if the WiFi goes for any reason there is no possibility of a recording.

Better then the last model by far.
I have had Arlo essetials cameras. I had 4 cameras and a doorbell. One of the cameras went bad or got tampered with and stopped working. I got this to replace it. It connects to my WiFi faster, has less delay and a much improved picture quality. So far I am very happy with it. This is going on 3 or 4 months and it is still working beautifully.

Great quality!
This camera is not only affordable, but it has great video quality the night vision is spot on with the actual spotlight that comes on when it detects movement. The camera itself is easy to set up and mount wherever you want it. But the amount that it comes supplied with, I do not like it. I wish there was a way to swivel the camera I left to right or up and down and with that particular amount you cannot. The notifications can get a bit overwhelming when there is a lot of activity going on around wherever the camera is pointed at or where your activity zone is set up. I end up muting all notifications coming from the camera and just occasionally check the cameras throughout the day. Other than that, it is a great camera.

My old Arlo cameras stopped charging after seven years I was told that these would work with my old router so I chose these. I wasn’t told that I now have to pay a monthly subscription for these. There is a software issue that can brick these cameras…
There is some combination of settings I use in their app that will brick these cameras permanently with no ability to factory reset. I haven’t figured out which combination of settings it is, but it seems that it might just be safer to keep the cameras at their out-of-the-box settings if you want to avoid bricking the product. This is garbage coding by the manufacturer. It’s easy enough to return a new one, but you are out of luck (and money) if you brick an older one. Pretty cool business model to place a trap door in your firmware code that forces people to buy your product again.EDIT: figured out the trick to re-syncing these when you get stuck with the blue light long flash. What’s happening is that when you have gone into the app and removed the camera, it can no longer connect to your wi-fi. The issue is that it is STILL creating and trying to upload recordings nonetheless. When you go to perform the reset and reconnect steps they wont work because you are handling the camera and generating new recordings by creating motion. The trick is to: 1. Make sure the camera is fully charged. 2. Set the camera on a shelf in a well-lit room, facing a static scene like a wall or at objects that will have no motion from things like shadows, movement or lights being turned on/off. Leave it here for whatever amount of time it needs to complete trying to record/upload. Wait until the long blue light flash stops plus some time for good measure. 3. Press the pair button on the camera for 3 seconds but do so while holding the camera perfectly still and not generating a shadow in the view of the camera – all of this while facing the static scene you created. This should give you the fast blue light flash we need. 4. start the “add device” process in the app. 5. the add device process will tell you this device has been previously paired and needs to be reset. 6. press the pair button on the camera again, this time for 15-20 seconds (or until you see an amber light flashing) – again, hold the camera perfectly still. 7. Wait until the amber light stops flashing, then press the pair button again to get the fast blue light flash. 8. tell the app to attempt to connect to the device again. This time the app should find the camera. 9. in my case, the app froze when attempting to name the camera. If this happens, close/terminate the app. Re-open the app and go into the settings for the camera you just successfully added. It will have an error message that “onboarding must be completed”, click that and complete the rest of the setup if necessary.What a farce. This company needs to fire their developers and bring on new people to improve this code/logic.

I think the camera and the app are great!! Great tool to monitor your home and stay protected whether your there or not. Easy wireless setup, easy to install, perfect size.You can use the camera indoor or outdoor and it has great features like flash, input and output audio where you can hear and respond, live viewing, recording, and more. You can set up certain areas that you want monitored closely. It has features like license plate recognition and adding people that are “allowed” (like yourself & family members that visit) so the camera recognizes.It also has customized settings where you can get alerts for things like “Dog barking at door.” There’s also siren features on the alarm and emergency settings to connect directly to local law enforcement, fire department, or emergency medical services. You can also add emergency contacts that you would like to be automatically notified if any emergency service is needed.I think the camera and the app are great & well designed. There’s even a widget to add to your Home Screen. Would definitely recommend and would purchase again in the future as well.

There’s a trial period
I thought these cameras were fantastic! They record well and easy to access from other locations.Except you need to have a membership after the trial period expires or it only shows current activity and no longer recordsI am disappointed in these cameras as I cannot afford the membership so they’re now useless

My favorite after trying other brands
I’ve had multiple wireless and wired camera systems and after moving, I didnt want to go through the trouble of having a wired system installed. Needless to say, this is the third brand of cameras I’ve had and I am overly satisfied. While some other brands don’t catch anything or skip over connecting at the most important times: Arlo has been on time and right on time when I needed them the most. The videos are clear and I’ve prided myself on the fact that this camera system helped me catch a thief in the act after my former landlord didn’t believe me that one of their employees was going through my closet and my personal belongings. I haven’t experienced any issues with lag or connectivity and for those who have, I would recommend a WiFi extender; I don’t think people realize that you honestly need those anyways if you have a decent size sq footage. For reference, my space is 2 levels and 4000 sq ft with 3 extenders in the areas needing a strong connection the most. They are easy to set up and the cloud storage is affordable and much needed, especially to reference things. They are easy to set up and once you try Arlo; you’ll be glad you did!

Still Troubleshooting
We’re on our second round of Arlo cameras and added this 2nd Gen Essential XL 2K Outdoor camera as a comparison. We were fairly happy with the first batch of Arlo cameras we had (they lasted about 4-5 years and then simply quit working – even after replacing the solar chargers). This camera just doesn’t want to pick up any movement. Arlo cameras are easy to set up and get working *usually, but there is ZERO customer service with these cameras, so Troubleshooting discussions are the only source of help when you have questions. Definitely need the solar chargers for outdoor cameras, otherwise you’ll be climbing the ladder every few weeks to recharge the batteries

They’re decent enough
I was able to buy the 2k three-pack when they were heavily discounted at $189. Currently, they’re selling for $269. I wouldn’t pay that much for these. That’s too much. Keep in mind that you’ll need to pay for the Arlo Secure subscription as well, which is about $100 a year. As for the cameras themselves, they’re decent. The motion sensor/automatic recording is pretty snappy. Connecting to the camera’s live feed, however, is not. It takes about 10 seconds to connect, and there’s a bit of lag as well. (No, it’s not my internet connection.) The push notifications come through without a problem. The camera’s light is nice and bright. The camera mounts are basically useless unless you plan on fixing each camera at a 90 degree angle. They don’t swivel. Overall, not a bad little camera if you can get them on sale.

Pretty cool camera with GREAT quality video
This camera has great recording quality so you can really see someone if need be and be able to pick them out from a crowd if you catch my drift. The camera’s battery life is obviously longer in a lower traffic area since it’s not busy recording a lot. Night vision is in color! The notifications are spot on. I have found that it’s of course not in real time, it’s a little slower. I am not sure if it lags a little because of my crappy wifi or if that’s just how it is so I’ll update my review if I ever get better wifi! This was gifted to me so I had the subscription, I am not sure what it is like without it. You don’t NEED a subscription to use this camera but I’m sure it’s better to have it than not to.

Great Security Camera
The quality of this camera is top notch. It’s really easy to access and user friendly when checking footage. It tapes a wide view of my yard where I really only need the one. The light is bright and doesn’t make the video blurry surprisingly. Overall a great security camera and would buy more from Arlo.
